More Christmas in Chicago

I've been noticing the Christmas decorations on more buildings in Chicago this past week. Sometimes, a simple wreath is all it takes to decorate some of these buildings, many of which are highly decorative in their own right!

I was able to stop briefly at Christkindlemarket last Wednesday for its opening day. It was cold and rainy, but the crowds were out in full force. This week, I returned to closely inspect all the booths. I have my eye on a cute little nutcracker ornament, but it's something I still need to think about.

I had some delicious cheese puff pancakes sprinkled with powdered sugar, and a big stuffed pretzel. Delicious!

There were so many traditional German things to buy. I've always been fascinated by Black Forest cuckoo clocks. The nicer ones are really expensive. They're not really Victorian in the American sense, so I guess it would look strange in my house. Plus, I already have two nice chiming Victorian clocks that drive me crazy if they don't chime at the same time. I'm always adjusting one or the other. Throw a cuckoo into the mix, and I'd probably go off the deep end!

I think if you want a Black Forest Clock, you should have it. In Eureka Springs, there is a mixture of Victorian architecture and German timber frame houses. In fact they call it Little Switzerland. So, I think it would be perfectly appropo!

Dear Pam,
I must say..Chicago is quite the festive city. I love it! I also think the architecture on some of those buildings is absolutely beautiful. I love old cities.
Thanks for sharing. I hope you are enjoying the season and partaking of its merriment!

Wow-those buildings are beautiful! As for the cuckoo clock-the great thing about the Victorian style is that it is very eclectic. I think that a cuckoo clock would blend in very nicely with all of your Victorian treasures. Of course, with all that chiming it may acutally drive you a bit 'cuckoo':)!

Kim

Pam, I've really enjoyed visiting your blog today. There's so much to see and revel in . . . love Victorian anything and your gardens are glorious!

I'm about three hours from Chicago and have never made it that way during the Christmas season . . . might have to do sometime. That market looks like a great place to get into trouble! Love, love, love cuckoo clocks!

Thanks so much for sharing!

Blessings,
Teresa
