What's Blooming?

Spirea x vanhouttei
Spirea x vanhouttei (Bridal Wreath)

Last week I was still wearing a coat and gloves. Today, it's in the 90's! The garden is bursting with color. Some of my favorites have come and gone, like the lilacs and the bridal wreath (above, last week). But the roses and irises have begun to open, and some of my spring bloomers are still going strong!

Here is an overview of some of my garden areas:

Side lawn, looking north. I like to keep the grass tall, especially this time of year. It really keeps the weeds away!

I love the color and textures of the garden! Here are some close-ups of the flowers that are in bloom today (and some close-ups of non-flowers that have beautiful textures and colors).

I love your garden! How beautiful! You have some of my favorite flowers. I see your weigela is blooming; mine has buds, but not quite ready to bloom yet.

Hi Katie-

Thank you! I think it's fun to watch the other bloggers south of me to see what's blooming in their gardens. Then I know mine will be next! :-)

Wow - you're a great photographer and gardener. The blooms are all lovely, but I'm really taken with the ostrich ferns! I have a spot where they might work really well!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful spring garden.

Hi Leah-

Thanks for the nice words! I really like how my ostrich ferns have gotten fuller the last few years. They were spindly for several years, and it took quite a while for them to spread.

My dad would have loved reading your post today. He had a natural green thumb and your first ic of bridal wreath brought so manay childhood memories back. My dad plated bridal wreath as a border from our neighor's yard. It grew so high and was so full and lovely. I used to pick the tiny boquets and dry them for my sisters Tammy dolls. Sea witch

Sea Witch-

I'm glad the bridal wreath picture brought back some fond childhood memories! I remember loving our neighbor's bridal wreath shrubs as a child, and that's why I just had to have one in my garden. And I've never trimmed it in 16 years!

Yvonne-

Don't you just love the smell of rugosa roses? My white one perfumes the whole yard. I always try to buy plants that have great smells. It's one of the reasons I love flower gardening!

Kim-

Thank you for the nice words! It's amazing how much more I'm seeing in the flowers when I get really good close-up pics! (i.e., little cobwebs all over everything)

OK I've said this before but will again, this is one of the nicest blogs I have been in and I really love this beautiful garden of yours. Lucky you, we still have cold rain coming down but that's called Oregon sunshine:)
Pop over in the next couple weeks to La Bella Vie to see (cringe?) what we did to our Eastlake full size bed...stay tuned...

It's never too late, Valerie! No matter how much I neglect my garden at times, I'm always able to get out there eventually and whip it back into shape!.
