Tonight, in the pouring rain, I hear them singing for the first time this year! It's always a welcoming sound.
Every year, we have hundreds of baby toadlets jumping around the yard.
Maybe it's our Frog Spitter that makes the toads feel welcome.
One year, I was startled by a full-grown toad who had somehow managed to get into our basement. I can't imagine how he got down there. I'm thinking he got in as a baby and lived his whole life down there, because he was very pale. We managed to scoop him up, and introduced him to the pond outside. He was very grateful.

ReplyDeleteYes, we have little toads in our back yard. I love to see them around, it's a great sign that one's yard is healthy and natural. We live about two blocks from the river Thames and and at night, we can hear them loud and clear now - just love the sounds of summer. Great shots of your toads.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful blog! I am seriously enjoying myself. I am so glad you commented on mine, so I could visit you. I do love frogs, they are also necessary to our planet. We see mostly tiny tree frogs,,well,when you are lucky enough to see them...hearing them,,no problem. In the swampy areas the bull frogs are giant with a vioce to match. So interesting,,,great post Pam!

I don't think we have tree frogs up this far north (at least I've never seen any). Frogs, toads, and crickets are all such wonderful little singers, I think! ;-)

I love frogs and toads! We have the pretty little green tree frogs that live in the siding of our house. They come out at night to serenade while the deep song of the bullfrogs resinates in the distant marches:).

ReplyDeleteI never knew frogs would live in the siding of a house! Do they cause any damage? I'll have to go south someday to see tree frogs. They look so cute in pictures! I've heard bullfrogs in the woods up here, but there are no woods by our house.

Your water feature is such a treat. I have it on my wish list, my honey-do-list. We do have tiny tree frogs that make a big noise, I bet they would like a pond...even though they have a creek a block away. do your cats get after them?
